Set in 350 BC, when India was the richest nation, Sony Entertainment Television’s new show Porus will tell the tale of the warrior who waged a war against the biggest conqueror of the world Alexander, when he tried to set his foot in India.
Television may be known for saas-bahu sagas but another genre that has struck gold is definitely historical sagas. After the success of Maharana Pratap, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat and Peshwa Bajirao among others, Sony Entertainment Television is all set to create magic with its two projects. While one is Ashish Sharma-Sonarika Bhadoria’s Prithvi Vallabh, the other is Siddharth Kumar Tewary helmed Porus. While the show stars Laksh in the titular role, it will also feature Rohit Purohit, Rati Pandey, Suhani Dhanki and Praneet Bhat. After the success of Baahubali, the Indian audience seems to lap up on these epics dramas.
The channel recently released a two-minute promo of the show that has got a tremendous response. Set in 350 BC, when India was the richest nation, Porus will tell the tale of the warrior who waged a war against the biggest conqueror of the world Alexander, when he tried to set his foot in India.
The promo starts with visuals of a magnificent kingdom in India, where happiness and prosperity are celebrated with music and life. Stark opposite to it, the next shot showcases the reality of the kingdom in Macedonia, where the rich trod the underprivileged. Through the promo, we also get to know that both Porus and Alexander were born on the same day, in different corners of the world. Guess, their destiny was always tied. The voiceover further tells that it wasn’t the birth of two warriors but rather two ideas that changed history. Alexander, further in the promo, shares his belief of winning the world, even if it means killing humanity. On the other hand, the young Porus promises to protect his motherland and its people from any invader.
Siddhartha Tewary who has mastered the genre having successfully helmed shows like Mahabharata, Mahakali and Shani among others has once again managed to bring alive his magic on screen. The project that is touted to be a Rs 500 crore project looks rich not just visually and in production value but also content and characterizations. To recreate a world from 350 BC might have been a gigantic task but the makers have successfully managed to convince the viewers. The team has shot in the beautiful locales of Thailand and other exotic locations. From the costumes, the look to the feel and the setting, everything is on point.
Talking about the leads, Laksh as Porus and Rohit Purohit as Alexander the Great seem to be perfect choices to play the respective roles. The actors have reportedly been training for months to play the strong warriors. Rati Pandey and Sameksha, who play their mothers, have also exhibited a royal persona.
