Actor Toral Rasputra has been on the tube for a rather long time now, where it is no secret that she shot to fame owing to her role in Balika Vadhu, later which she has been a part of a range of shows too.
Recently seen in Jag Jaanani Maa Vaishno Devi as the on-screen mother to Vaishnavi (Maisha Dixit), Rasputra quit the show as she did not want to play mother to a grown-up girl where the show is headed for a leap.
Actor Puja Banerjee has been roped in to play the role of grown-up Vaishnavi and Rasputra did not want to play the on-screen mother to her. In an interview with Times of India, she said, “Leaps, sudden changes in the storyline and actors quitting are all part of the game because everything depends on ratings. I was aware that Maa Vaishnodevi, too, will go in for a leap, but I did not expect it to happen so suddenly. I have never played mother to an adult. Since the decision to introduce the leap was sudden, I had to shoot a few scenes with Puja, but I was sure that I wanted to quit. I felt that I’d not be able to look convincing as her mother. It was an amicable decision and the makers understood my point.”
When she was asked if she is disappointed with younger actors being asked to play parents to actors of their same age group, Rasputra said, “I am not disappointed, but yes, the situation should change. The makers are not looking at actors in the age group of 47-60 to play parents, they want young artistes instead. Ever since I played a mother in Balika Vadhu and Udaan I have been typecast. I have done a comedy show (Namune) and in Balika Vadhu too, my character had many shades. However, the makers don’t seem to remember that. Makers should invest in mature love stories and explore something different, rather than just offering us mother roles in mytho shows and social dramas.”
