We in conversation with Barkha Bisht Sengupta on her new show
Beautiful Barkha Bisht Sengupta, currently seen as Anjani on Sony TV’s newly launched mythological show Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanumaan, is getting compliments for her beautiful look and attire on the show. Its Barkha’s first mythological show and she is finding it quite challenging. Read on to know more about Barkha’s first ever experience of doing a mythological show…
How did the show happen to you? What made you opt for the show?
When I got a call for the show, I said a no for it because I didn’t want to do a mythological show. Mythological shows are doing pretty well these days and are very successful but its really difficult to do. It has a lot of costume drama and the style of acting required is different. I am not used to this style of acting and speaking Sanskrit dialogues so at first I said a no to it. However, when I read the story and got to know about the character of Hanumaan’s Mother in this show, I decided to do it. The initials episodes of the show will have the pre-birth story of Hanumaan. So that part will be focused on Hanumaan’s mother, Anjani. That made me feel that she is going to be the central character and I agreed to do the show.
How did you prepare yourself for this role?
Firstly, I prepared myself mentally that I have to do it no matter how much of effort I will have to put in and how uncomfortable I will feel. I didn’t have to do that much once I was mentally prepared. I am good at remembering dialogues, Sanskrit dialogues too. I didn’t know much about the story of Anjani. I have always heard that Hanumaan is the son of Pawan but from this show I came to know that he is Kesri Putra Hanumaan and Kesri is the husband of Anjani. I sat with the writers and understood the story well before I started shooting for it.
How excited is your daughter to see you in this role?
My daughter is super excited to see me on-screen. She has also come on my set and whenever she sees the Bal Hanumaan and his tail, she gets really very excited. She keeps asking me that, “Why are you playing his Mumma? You are my Mumma.” She watches the cartoon series of Hanuman so seeing her Mumma playing the mother of Hanumaan on-screen is something really exciting for her.
How did you spend your short break post Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne and when Hanumaan happened to you?
I didn’t get much time post Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne. I spent a lot of time with my daughter and my husband during my break because we don’t get much time to spend with our family when we are working.
Are you enjoying your beautiful costumes and jewellery?
I am not enjoying my costume and jewellery but I am getting used to it. Its not the way we dress up everyday and shooting for 12 hours with so much of weight is not easy. I don’t really like it but when I see that how it makes me look then I become happy because it’s the end result that matters for an actor. I feel good when I am looking good.
What are you getting to learn from your character?
The characters of a mythological show especially the women are extremely sweet, calm and patient. I feel quite nice that these days women have become little more aggressive may be because of the work pressure they have. I am trying to become like Anjani – calm, loving and someone who forgives easily. She is a perfect example of how a woman should be.
What is the biggest challenge that you are facing while playing this character?
My biggest challenge is shooting with the costumes. I don’t feel any problem in speaking Sanskrit dialogues and I have also get into this style of acting but wearing heavy costumes is the biggest challenge for me.
Message to you fans?
