PromoReview: Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Dhai Kilo Prem’ may just be her most ‘ADORABLE’ show!

Love comes in all sizes…quite literally.
Star Plus has consistently managed to present a rare blend of content and commercial aspect in its TV shows.
The channel has adopted the ‘Nayi Soch’ idea and has quite literally been on song to fulfill that. While a content driven show like ‘P.O.W. – Bandi Yuddh Ke’ carved its niche, commercial potboilers like ‘Ishqbaaaz’ and ‘Dil Bole Oberoi’ have been loved too.
Amidst all this, Star Plus has also decided to revamp its then afternoon slot with’Star Plus Dopahar.’ Four shows are ready to be presented and one of them has been particularly talked about.
We are talking about Ekta Kapoor and Sandip Sikcand’s venture, ‘Dhhai Kilo Prem.’ The promo has arrived and we bring to you an analysis of the credentials to it.
What is it about?
In the busy streets of a populated city, we witness an overweight, delusional and sweet man, Piyush (Mehrezan Mazda) talking to his friend that when he gets married, he will make sure that he gets a girl as beautiful as Deepika Padukone and not someone like ‘puri’ which is bloated.
In a contrast, we are introduced to Deepika (ironic, already?) (Anjali Anand), who is also a sweet, overweight, beautiful and simple girl who desires a man with a large heart just like herself.
The duo have different dreams, where Piyush dreams that when he would walk the streets with his future wife, the whole of Agra will be charmed by them and not the Taj Mahal, while Deepika expects her future husband not to consider her any lesser than Taj Mahal itself.
So, the bottom line is, both have similar body structures, but dreams are where the sky is the limit.
What’s Good?
The innocence that the characters showcase is absolutely fantastic. The idea of two overweight people not concerned about their ‘heavy’ issues and having bigger dreams is already a winner in itself.
Anjali Anand, who wowed many with her performance in the web-series, ‘Untag’ enters the commercial TV fiction space and she looks totally comfortable. Her screen presence is radiant and she looks really beautiful as Deepika.
What’s Not So Good?
Being nit-picky, some may already be aware of how fitness conscious actor, Meherzan Mazda is in his actual life. Hence, when you see him as an obese man, it is not completely convincing right away. Having said that, his acting talent seems to be maximized in the show, as he looks confident and this challenge will be one to watch out for.
The Verdict
A tale about two overweight people having apparently delusional dreams and how they would enter each other lives seems like a simple, subtle and adorable offering. Breaking several stereotypes, the show has the potential to be an absolute winner.
