You’ve been around for over a decade, how do you feel about having come this far?
It has been more than a decade that I have been a part of the industry and I am proud to be a part of the industry. It has given me a lot and I have tried to do my bit by doing whatever I know and have understood over these years through the entertainment I try to provide through my shows. It has taught me a lot of things, to understand that with passing times, you are supposed to be more humble and more accepting of the industry and the world, in general, I am trying to understand and learn to be more human because acting is after all about portraying human emotions, so I am trying to do that through my art, and that is what I have learned and I am trying to understand this craft better.
You have mentioned how you want to also work on Gujarati films, how have things been on that front?
I’d love to them, since I am caught up with the show, it has not been giving me any time to invest in anything else. But in the future, I would love to do any kind of film, not just Gujarati films. That is my mother tongue, so yes, I would love to contribute in that sense, but other than that, yes, I’d love to be a part of any other language for that matter.
GHKPM has been an absolute success, does it get overwhelming?
Success or failure, I have a very different point of view towards that, I have seen my share of both, so I’ve become nonchalant to these things. I mean it is good, my work and my show is being appreciated, at the same time, I don’t want it to reach me to a point that I start basing my happiness or sadness on the success of a project I am involved with. It is an acquired trait and has taken years of ups and downs for me to reach this point so that I don’t react to success or failure. It keeps me mentally stable and gives me peace of mind. I am really happy that the show is a success and people accepted it with open arms, but that does not take away the fact that even if there is a parallel universe and the show wouldn’t have done well, that wouldn’t take away the hard kind of hard work that I or the team is putting, so I make sure that I convey to the team that the ratings shouldn’t affect the kind of work we are putting in the scenes. On one hand, I am happy, on the other, I shall continue to do my hard work, never the less.
You found love through the show, it has done extremely well, how special would you say the show is for you?
I think the show is extremely special to me, on my professional aspect yes, on the personal aspect, I found the love of my life, it is a fulfilling experience. I couldn’t be happier, and words fall short. I feel for such things, the more you speak, the lesser the value becomes, so I’d just say that I couldn’t be happier.
We have often seen plots with two women and one man, but the show gives it a different angle, do you think it is something that is done and dusted?
I feel we have reached a point as an industry, we have seen almost every aspect of human emotion and human relationships. But what makes the difference is the presentation and the way it is executed. Then comes the characterization and other factors like who is portraying what and how. There is nothing I can say that is absolutely original and we have never witnessed that kind of a story, we’ve all witnessed a lot of stories we have seen time and again but they ring well with the audience. The reason is because probably it is executed and presented in a different way, and I always believe that you could have read or heard a story somewhere, what matters is the execution. Yes, this has been done a lot of times, but the way it is portrayed, it matters.
What kind of content would you say you are looking to explore?
I am an actor and I can’t bind myself by saying that I want to do a certain genre only, I am no one to decide that. I am open to everything, it should excite me, and this has been overused by a lot of actors, so I don’t want to join the bandwagon, but if you ask everyone, the answer would be this, and I am no different in that sense. I want to be excited to get up for work and make me reach the set and face the camera, so yes, it should excite me. I am looking forward to doing different kinds of genres, something that has not been explored by me before, I would love to do something like that.
