With the recent spat between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover, and the news about the latter quitting the show doing the rounds, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show‘ seems to be in trouble as now, the show might also lose one of its longest companions – Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The former cricketer and now Cabinet Minister has been questioned by the Supreme Court about his capabilities of striking a balance between his duties towards the government and his shoot schedule.
The Punjab government is exploring a legal opinion on the issue of the cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu’s appearance on the popular television comedy show after he became a Cabinet Minister in Amarinder Singh’s government.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had said that he will seek legal opinion on whether Sidhu, as a minister, can continue to be a part of the TV show.
“I will give a legal opinion on the matter once the file regarding this issue is put up to me,” said Punjab Advocate General Atul Nanda.
Sidhu was sworn-in as Cabinet Minister of the Punjab government on March 16. He has been allocated the portfolios of local government, tourism, and cultural affairs.
The chirpy Sidhu has been defending his move to continue ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ saying that he will fulfill all his duties as a minister and will go to Mumbai only on Saturdays to shoot for the show.
“It is a matter of one night only. I will be available for the rest of the time,” Sidhu told media here.
He maintains that doing a TV show does not come under the ambit of ‘office of profit’ since he is not making any money from the government.
But opposition leaders from the Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have questioned Sidhu’s move. They said that Sidhu should decide whether he wants to be a minister or continue as a TV celebrity.
