Karan Kundrra on returning to TV with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, shooting with Shivangi-Mohsin and COVID scare

Karan Kundrra will be seen in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and will be playing a pivotal role in the show. Read his exclusive interview here.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata is about to witness the new entry of Karan Kundrra as the actor will bring about a new change in the story. The actor has been keeping busy with other projects, including OTT and movies. And now, he is back on the screens with one of the most popular daily soaps.

How is it shooting for the TV once again?

Shooting for television is a beautiful feeling, being a part of the household. It has been a long time since I have been away from television, but as I said, it is the backbone of my career and will always be. It is always nice to come back, do a little bit, and then go back to doing what I want to do.

What was keeping you away?

The right opportunity. As I said, because I do films and OTT, there are time constraints and to do a full-fledged show on television is a commitment and one year goes by, hence, it is difficult. If the right opportunity comes, as I figured, it is 2021 and characters are being written differently, so when Rajan ji got in touch with me for the show, Ranveer’s character was very interesting and well written, not the typical run of the mill sort of character, who’ll come and created characters, so I said why now.

Kitani Mohabbat Hai still has its charm and continues to garner you, love. How does it feel?

I did a live with Kritika as well and all the love I get is overwhelming. I was in Egypt and people are watching it there, people are watching the dubbed versions in different countries, and it feels so good. It was 12 years of the show and I had put up a post and my god, it was crazy. I think I owe everything I am today to Kitani Mohabbat Hai.

For a new character entry in such a show, you might be subjected to bashing. Are you prepared for it?

Absolutely, I am an artist. If I am doing my job right, then that will happen. When nothing happened even, my Instagram was full of YRKKH fans welcoming me and my fans too, were excited to be able to see me every day. Shivangi and Mohsin fans also messaged me and asking me what will you do. There is not a lot of hatred, but given my streak, I really don’t care about all the hatred.

Mohsin and Shivangi are very popular and I believe that is the kind of magic that television creates. YRKKH is a very popular show and the TRP wise also, it is very popular. It is a great opportunity.

Tell us about your character.

Ranveer is a very flamboyant sort of character, he is a very nice character. He is a Rajasthani and has a past, he has baggage, and I think everyone is going to love what Ranveer is. He is not here to create any problems, he is very good at heart. I wouldn’t call it a cameo but I don’t think it is going to be a very big stretch.

How was it shooting with the entire cast?

I have shot with Shivangi, Mohsin, and everyone else, beautiful people. I was a little nervous because I am going on a new set, it is not Balaji, I only know Priyamvada, everyone is very warm and welcoming, even the crew members and everyone else on the sets. You know, the ‘family waali feeling!’

How have you been keeping up with the COVID scare?

Yes, I am very scared, my mother is very scared. It is quite a nightmare happening in Mumbai right now and we keep getting the news about people testing positive for the virus. I got myself tested today, got my staff tested, the crew has also been reduced to 35-45% so we are not able to shoot on a large scale as well. We are taking all the precautions and I am hoping no one gets it.
