Actor Varun Toorkey, who has recently joined the cast of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, talks about his role in the show, working with producer Rajan Shahi and how he feels being part of a hit show.
Which shows have you done before?
Uttaran, Third season of Qubool Hai, Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyaar Kya Karein, Saam Daam Dand Bhed.
Have you followed Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai?
Anyone not following the show also ends up following it because it’s the longest running and has been a consistently successful show. I had always known about it.
Getting a role in Yeh Rishta is a big break for you since it’s a hit show. Comment
It’s a good feeling being part of a show that has such goodwill and a legacy. I’m hopeful that the audience will like Rishab’s character.
What are your character details?
My character name is Rishab and I am Naira’s friend from Cape Town. They’ve met each other again after many years and he’s very happy to see her and there is some kind of a spark between them. Rishab is there to help Naira through the difficult time she is going through right now.
What is the secret of your good looks?
(Laughs) Well, first of all thank you for the compliment but I don’t really take looks very seriously. I do, however, try to keep a relatively clean diet.
Is having good looks half the battle won?
Well, good looks are really subjective. My idea of good looks may be completely different from yours. It all really depends on how close the look comes to the character that the makers had in mind.
Rajan Shahi is a hit show maker so how do you feel getting an opportunity to work with Director’s Kut.
All of this happened pretty rapidly for me in the span of a couple of days but I had the opportunity to meet with Mr Shahi before I started shooting for the show. I must say that he made me feel really comfortable and I had a very positive feeling about the whole thing. Apart from him being the producer of the longest running show on Indian television, it was Mr Shahi’s genuine love for the show and its characters that made me want to work with him. And as for Directors Kut, it is an absolute solid team with great people who genuinely work hard towards making a good show and treating everyone respectfully and that’s exactly the kind of environment I like to work in so I’m very fortunate.
