Chandrakanta is based on a popular novel by the same name. It’s television adaptation was first aired in 1994. Chandrakanta is returning on Colors and Life OK together.
Indian television is set to offer a double treat to the 90s generation. Television’s classic drama Chandrakanta is making a return, and it is going to be a double dose. The popular show will make a comeback on not just one but two channels together!
Two popular GECs– Life OK and Colors are bringing fresh adaptations of the popular novel, which inspired the TV series of the same name in 1994. While the one on Life OK is being produced by Nikhil Sinha, who earlier helmed the much-loved mythological series Siya Ke Ram, the Colors show is being made under the banner of Balaji Telefilms.
Naturally so, the silent war between the channels has already begun with both of them releasing the promos of their shows on the same day, within the difference of a few hours.
“We released our promo last Friday morning. After that, Colors put out their’s in the evening. Ours was a proper trailer but their’s looked a little sketchy. So, it is obvious they did out of competition,” a source from Life OK told indianexpress.com.
The 14 second-long promo of the Life OK show features the back of a woman, which is most probably Princess Chandrakanta. The tagline of the series is ‘Prem Ya Paheli’. The trailer of the one on Colors, on the other hand, is a 10 second-long clip that shows arrows flying.
According to Life OK, their version of Chandrakanta has the concept and the story for the show in place. “We have also shot for the pilot episode, though not with the final cast. The episode has been shot to give a feel of how the show will be. We are yet to zero in on the cast. Our original plan was to have the show on air in February. But now with Colors in competition, we might change our plan,” added the insider from Life OK.
The details on Colors’ Chandrakanta are kept under wraps. Not much is known except that Ekta Kapoor is backing the project. “We are not yet briefed about the show. We got to know about it only when the promo was put out. The details about the series are not being shared right now,” a source from Colors said.
Chandrakanta, which aired between 1994 1nd 1996 had a huge ensemble cast including actors Shahbaz Khan, Shikha Swaroop, Durga Jasraj and Mukesh Khanna.
Understanding that the original Chandrakanta is still remembered for its perfect casting, opulent sets and crisp plot, both the new version have a tough competition to match upto that. But seeing the clash between Colors and Life OK, both the new shows are set to face a bigger challenge against each other too. Only time will tell which channel will win the war of TRPs and become the audience’s pick.
