After happy times of exploring the male and female debutants, fresh pairings and new shows that wowed us, we come to a place which will get you relive those memories of shows that you cherish.
A show hitting the tube and going off-air is not something that can be controlled as such and the fate of a respective show is always a surprise. This year was no different, where an array of shows went off-air, thus breaking several hearts.
Some long-runners and some shows which were barely months old, it was surprising for sure. More than 20 shows went off-air this year, but we will list down the ones that were shocking and left eyeballs popped.
Qubool Hai : The year started with one of the biggest surprises, where the four-year-old, Zee TV’s popular show, ‘Qubool Hai’ finally went off-air. After several seasons and new avatars of Surbhi Jyoti, the show was not left with much to dominate and was hence, pulled off-air.
Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi : Another shocker was set in place, where one of the most popular shows, ‘Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi’ went off-air too. With dipping TRPs and all attempts to redeem the show’s popularity failing, the makers decided to pull the show off-air. However, needless to say, the chemistry of Shakti Arora and Radhika Madan will be cherished for times to come.
Kahani Hamari… Dil Dosti Deewanepan Ki : One of the biggest debacles of the year was the And TV show, ‘Kahani Hamari Dil Dosti Deewanepan Kii’. It is not often that we witness a show being pulled off-air only after a month of runtime and 30 episodes. The show was actor Karan Wahi’s comeback to fiction, but that couldn’t help the show’s fate.
Balika Vadhu : It can be termed as an absolute irony where one of the longest running shows on Indian television went off-air in the same month that it was launched. ‘Balika Badhu’, after creating several records finally went off-air, where the revamped season did not work at all.
Ishq Ka Rang Safed : One of the underdog shows that was a launched a year ago, the show had the popularity of Mishal Raheja as a major factor of success. However, the development of Eisha Singh’s exit from the show was a shocker. Though popular actress, Sanjeeda Sheikh replaced her on the show, but that did not help the fate, and lead to the show thus going off-air.
Diya Aur Baati Hum : Another show which was not only popular but also a long runner, the news about ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum going off-air came as a surprise. The show’s novel concept went off-tracks in the ending days of the show and the TRPs never revived. Though a second season has been announced, it will not have Anas Rashid and Deepika Singh returning with the show.
Vishkanya : This show had a lot of positives when it was launched. From following the trend of supernatural drama to creating a decent buzz before its launch, ‘Vishkanya’ was expected to be a winner. However, apart from some encouraging moments, the show never clicked and was hence pulled off-air after almost six months of runtime.
Tashan-E-Ishq : Zee TV’s popular youth drama had a bittersweet couple of months back in August-September. While the show completed a year of success in August, the show was pulled off-air in September. The trio of Sidhant Gupta, Jasmin Bhasin, and Zain Imam was a sensation, where the replacement of Sidhant with Naman Shaw did not really click with the audience.
Bade Bhaiya Ki Dulhania : Another tale, where a show was launched with a lot of promise but met with a fate completely unanticipated! The Sony TV show, ‘Bade Bhaiya Ki Dulhania’ was launched in July with loads of promises. In spite of having fresh-faces, the show’s concept seemed interesting. However, with almost negligible TRPs, the show couldn’t sustain and went off-air in a mere two months.
Krishnadasi : Touted to be a game changer in Indian television, ‘Krishnadasi’ was one of those shows which faced several ups and downs. The show was launched in January and was appreciated for its unique concept and great performances. There were times, the show would fetch decent ratings too. However, towards the end, the ratings kept dipping, not leaving any choice for the makers, but to pull the show off-air.
Chakravartin Ashok Samrat : The tale about ‘Chakravartin Ashok Samrat’ going off-air was certainly one-of-its-kind. The popularity and performance of Siddharth Nigam as Ashoka was replaced aptly with the popularity and comeback of actor Mohit Raina. However, in a contrast of incidents, the entry of Mohit Raina did not click with the viewers and the falling TRPs couldn’t be revived. The show finally went off-air last month.
Ek Duje Ke Vaaste : Probably the most shocking of the lot, the news about ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’ going off-air created havoc (literally). The popularity of the show was so much that there were protests by the fans to get the show back on-air. However, amidst several controversies regarding the lead pair, Nikita Dutta and Namik Paul individually, the show went off-air.
As sad as people would have gotten on their favorite shows going off-air, the old saying about ‘an end is not the end, but a new beginning’ can be remembered.
