Drama series Laado, on Colors was popular among the audience for its terrific story and Ammaji’s bold and fierce character. Laado 2 -Veerpur Ki Mardani has already created a buzz among the fans. In conversation with Meghna Malik, the actress spoke at length about her character and the show.
What is the new Ammaji bringing on the table for the audience?
This season, Ammaji is more colorful, filled with energy and is bringing the lessons learnt from her past experiences. This time, she is the crusader, a torch-bearer whose intent is to inspire women to achieve their goals, to motivate them in the right direction. Also, her objective is to help women find their voice, protect their dignity and provide them with opportunities irrespective of any discrimination, social evil or crime that is existing in the world. The role of Ammaji is to fight against the wrong and set things right for women. Vo acho ke liye achi aur buro ke liye bohot buri hai. (She is good to those who are good, but she is worse for those who are bad.)
The season one of Laado was a popular cult show and there is a legacy that is associated with the show. What is your take on this? What do you have to say about the changes that have come along?
I was totally taken aback when I got the call for the role of Ammaji. And it is a pleasant moment to witness that your character is widely accepted and loved by the audience. And I am overwhelmed to know that the character was missed and remembered by people. With the second season, Ammaji is all set to make a comeback with an interesting twist and with different perception and appearance. The plotline and journey is going to be unique this time and Ammaji’s perception various issues is going to change.
The channel, Colors motive was to progressive content, a story where social issues will be touched upon through life of Ammaji, who is the protagonist. It is challenging the way it was loved and appreciated earlier. And it’s a huge challenge and responsibility to match up to the first season’s success. And it is going to be a bigger challenge for the writers as the actors come in much later. I have trust and belief in Kamal Pandey ji who is the writer for first season and as well as the second season.
Eight years is a long time, did you face any repercussions while doing the show again. What was your thought process when you took up the show?
I had a little apprehension, that I wanted to do something new. When I look myself in the mirror I should feel a change. Then our audience as I said is quite challenging. But there is an attempt and I am hopeful that we are going to succeed the second time also.
As you mentioned that the content has been very progressive in terms of the second season, so can the audiences expect a progressive Ammaji or the same bold and fierce Ammaji yet again?
She will be fierce and bold without a doubt. It is kind of a larger than life character. It is a character that sells dreams and hopes to then the audience. So that is where the connection is.Andaaz toh wahi hai, but she has a different viewpoint now. She is now in favor of a girlchild. And she will be the voice of the women if they are weak and if they are discriminated and if there is violence. So she will be reaching to all these women and be a source of inspiration for the women.
